6-Benzyloxy-2-bromo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-ol

The benzyloxy-substituted bromotetralol is a bromohydrin-stage intermediate used in preparation of unsaturated naphthalene-derived fragments. Its secondary alcohol provides the site for dehydration, while the adjacent bromine is retained as a subsequent coupling handle. The aromatic benzyl ether carries the phenolic oxygen through the ring-modification sequence in protected form.

Removing water from the appropriate ring positions generates a bromodihydronaphthalene, changing the fragment from a saturated alcohol into an unsaturated coupling precursor. The protected oxygen and brominated ring therefore perform different jobs: one preserves a later phenol function and the other enables subsequent carbon-fragment assembly.

Typical Applications

• Elacestrant bromodihydronaphthalene intermediate: Used in dehydration of the bromotetralol to form the vinyl-bromide-containing dihydronaphthalene. This prepares the protected fused-ring fragment for subsequent borylation or cross-coupling while carrying the aromatic oxygen as its benzyl ether.
