Ethyl 8-chlorooctanoate

Ethyl 8-chlorooctanoate is an omega-chloro ester containing a terminal primary chloride and an ethyl-protected carboxyl group. The chloride is the substitution site for attaching a nucleophile, while the ester preserves the acid functionality for a later hydrolysis step. Together, these groups introduce an eight-carbon carboxyalkyl chain into a target intermediate.
