HPEG is a methallyl-functional polyethylene glycol macromonomer used to manufacture polycarboxylate-ether superplasticizers. Its unsaturated end group enters the polymer backbone during copolymerization, while the long polyether chain becomes a hydrophilic side chain. In the resulting dispersant, these side chains provide steric separation between cement particles.
The selected material is an HPEG-2400-class solid macromonomer with nominal molecular mass near 2,400. It is combined with suitable carboxylic-acid monomers to build a comb-shaped polymer; the macromonomer itself is not the finished concrete water reducer. Backbone composition and side-chain architecture influence adsorption, dispersion and flow retention. Its methallyl-derived structure distinguishes this scope from isoprenol-derived TPEG products.
Typical Applications
PCE water-reducer synthesis: Used with suitable unsaturated carboxylic-acid monomers to manufacture comb-shaped PCE polymers for high-range concrete water reducers and workability-control admixtures.
