Carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex (50% solids)

Carboxylated styrene-butadiene latex is an aqueous dispersion used to introduce an elastomeric polymer phase into mineral or filled binders. Styrene contributes strength, butadiene contributes flexibility, and carboxyl functionality supports interaction with suitable substrates and inorganic components. On drying, the dispersed particles form a polymer phase that improves bonding and cohesion.

The selected material is a cement-compatible latex with nominal solids near 50%. It is mixed into suitable mortar formulations as a liquid polymer modifier, not processed like dry SBR rubber. Polymer film formation complements cement hydration and can improve flexibility and resistance to water penetration in the resulting composite. The complete mineral formulation and curing conditions establish the final bond and durability.

Typical Applications

• Polymer-modified repair mortars: Used to improve adhesion to prepared concrete and increase cohesion or flexibility in suitable cementitious repair layers.
• Cementitious bonding slurries: Used with compatible cement and aggregate systems to create a polymer-modified bridge between prepared substrates and subsequent mortar layers.
• Screeds and rendering mortars: Used in appropriately designed cement-based layers where improved substrate bonding and reduced brittleness are required.
