Sodium hexamethylene-1,6-bisthiosulfate dihydrate is a bifunctional sulfur-containing additive used to modify vulcanized rubber networks. It introduces thermally stable connections containing an organic spacer, helping reduce loss of crosslink integrity during prolonged heat exposure. The modified network can also improve resistance to fatigue in suitable dynamically stressed rubber compounds.

The selected material is the hydrated HTS salt used as a rubber crosslinking modifier. It works within an appropriately designed sulfur-cure system, rather than replacing every accelerator or antioxidant. Its contribution is network stabilization and durability, distinct from surface ozone protection. The elastomer blend and existing cure chemistry determine how the additive changes reversion behavior and dynamic properties.
