Isophthalic dihydrazide

Isophthalic dihydrazide is an aromatic compound containing two terminal hydrazide groups in a meta-substituted arrangement. These groups react with suitable epoxy or carbonyl functionality, providing routes to crosslinking and condensation. The rigid aromatic spacer and solid form make it useful in heat-activated resin systems where reaction must be delayed until processing.

The selected material is a fine-powder chemical grade for latent epoxy-curing formulations. Limited dissolution and subsequent thermal activation help separate storage from cure development in suitable one-component systems. Particle distribution matters because the hardener must become available throughout the resin. Its bifunctional hydrazide structure also supports preparation of linked condensation products, distinct from simply adding an inert aromatic filler.

• One-component epoxy adhesives: Used as a latent hardener in appropriately formulated heat-curing adhesive systems that require delayed reaction before use.
• Heat-curing epoxy sealants: Used in suitable filled sealant formulations where dispersed hydrazide particles contribute to network formation during heating.
• Hydrazone-linked intermediate synthesis: Used with appropriate carbonyl compounds to prepare bifunctional condensation products containing the aromatic dihydrazide spacer.
