Terephthalic dihydrazide

Terephthalic dihydrazide is a rigid aromatic dihydrazide with reactive groups at opposite ends of a para-substituted benzene ring. Its hydrazide groups support reactions with suitable epoxides and carbonyl compounds, providing crosslinking or chain-connecting functionality. The linear aromatic spacer gives a different molecular arrangement from the meta-substituted isophthalic analogue.

The selected material is fine solid powder for formulation and synthesis. In suitable heat-curing epoxy systems, the dispersed hardener becomes reactive as the formulation is heated. In condensation chemistry, the terminal hydrazide groups form new connections with carbonyl-containing partners. Its high-melting aromatic structure can support latency, but the resin, particle distribution and activation system establish the actual cure response.

Typical Applications

• Heat-curing epoxy formulations: Used as a hydrazide hardener in suitable one-component adhesives, coatings or related thermosetting systems.
• Carbonyl-functional resin crosslinking: Used in compatible formulations where the two hydrazide groups connect appropriate carbonyl-containing polymer chains.
• Aromatic hydrazone-linked compounds: Used as a bifunctional building block in condensation routes requiring a rigid para-phenylene-containing spacer.
