4-Acetamidocyclohexanol

4-Acetamidocyclohexanol is a protected amino alcohol carrying an acetamide and a secondary hydroxyl group at opposite ring positions. The acetyl group masks the amino functionality, while oxidation of the alcohol supplies the corresponding cyclohexanone. These complementary roles make it useful when the carbonyl chemistry must be developed before release of the ring-bound amine.

The selected commercial form is a cis/trans mixture. Oxidation converts the hydroxyl-bearing carbon into a ketone, so that alcohol-based relative stereochemistry is no longer present at that position. In aminotetrahydrobenzothiazole synthesis, the resulting 4-acetamidocyclohexanone is elaborated through alpha-halogenation and reaction with thiourea. The acetyl-protected amino group is carried through ring construction and can be removed later in the route.

Typical Applications

• Protected aminocyclohexanone manufacture: Used as the alcohol starting material for oxidation to 4-acetamidocyclohexanone, retaining the protected amino function.
• Pramipexole-route heterocycle precursors: Used upstream of the haloketone–thiourea sequence that constructs the 2-amino-tetrahydrobenzothiazole ring while the ring-bound amino substituent remains acetyl-protected.
