Glycerol ester of hydrogenated rosin

Glycerol ester of hydrogenated rosin is a thermoplastic tackifier resin made by esterifying hydrogenated rosin acids with glycerol. It modifies the balance of wetting, tack and cohesive behavior in compatible adhesive polymers. Hydrogenation reduces the unsaturation responsible for oxidative color change, supporting improved color and aging stability compared with less-stabilized rosin derivatives.

The selected industrial solid resin is a glycerol ester rather than free hydrogenated rosin or a pentaerythritol ester. It softens during hot processing and blends with suitable elastomers or thermoplastic adhesive binders. The tackifier changes how the adhesive contacts a surface and responds during bonding; the base polymer still supplies much of the film strength. Compatibility and resin proportion establish the final adhesive balance.

Typical Applications

• Hot-melt adhesive formulations: Used with compatible base polymers to adjust substrate wetting, tack and bond development in heated adhesive systems.
• Pressure-sensitive adhesives: Used in suitable elastomeric or other compatible formulations to build tack while balancing peel behavior and cohesive strength.
• Specialty adhesive and sealant blends: Used as a pale, oxidation-resistant tackifier component where color stability and compatible resin modification are important.
