Poly(methylhydrosiloxane)

Polymethylhydrosiloxane is a silicone fluid carrying reactive silicon-hydrogen groups along a siloxane backbone. These Si-H groups react with suitable vinyl groups through catalyzed hydrosilylation, enabling network formation or attachment of organic functionality. The silicone structure also provides a basis for hydrophobic surface treatments after appropriate reaction and curing.

The selected material is a high-hydrogen methylhydrogen silicone fluid, not an inert dimethyl silicone oil. Its multiple Si-H sites allow it to act as a crosslinking component in addition-cure systems when matched with the vinyl-functional polymer. It can also be converted into modified silicones or used in formulated water-repellent treatments. Hydrogen functionality, rather than viscosity alone, determines its chemical contribution.

Typical Applications

• Addition-cure silicone elastomers: Used as an Si-H crosslinking component with suitable vinyl-functional silicones in catalyzed two-component or related curing systems.
• Textile and mineral water-repellent treatments: Used in appropriately formulated and cured surface treatments where reactive silicone deposits provide hydrophobic character.
• Organomodified silicone synthesis: Used as the reactive silicone backbone for hydrosilylation with suitable unsaturated compounds, producing silicone derivatives with modified interfacial properties.
