Rubber antioxidant TMQ

TMQ is polymerized 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline, an amine antioxidant used in rubber compounding. It interrupts oxidation reactions and helps retain rubber properties during prolonged exposure to heat and oxygen. Its polymeric commercial form is suited to bulk incorporation into compounds requiring resistance to thermal aging.

The selected granular additive is a commercial oligomeric mixture rather than a single quinoline molecule. It is commonly combined with antiozonants or protective waxes because heat-oxygen stabilization and surface ozone protection are different tasks. Its amine chemistry can affect color, making it more appropriate for dark industrial rubber than appearance-sensitive light articles. The additive supports aging resistance without acting as the main sulfur-vulcanization accelerator.

Typical Applications

• Tire rubber compounds: Used in tread, carcass and other suitable tire formulations to help limit deterioration caused by thermal oxidation.
• Conveyor belts and industrial hoses: Used in dark rubber compounds exposed to heat and air where retention of mechanical properties through service is required.
• Technical rubber moldings: Used as part of the antioxidant package in suitable diene-rubber goods requiring protection against long-term heat-oxygen aging.
