Sodium naphthalenesulfonate formaldehyde condensate

Sodium naphthalene sulfonate formaldehyde condensate is an anionic dispersant used to separate cement particles in fresh concrete. Adsorption of its sulfonated polymer chains increases electrostatic repulsion, releasing water trapped within particle agglomerates. This supports lower mixing-water demand at a given consistency and greater flow when water content is held constant.

The selected material is a water-soluble powder for admixture manufacture or dry blending. It provides dispersing activity rather than cementitious binding, so strength benefits arise mainly from an appropriately reduced water-to-cement ratio. Its naphthalene-condensate chemistry differs from the steric dispersion of polycarboxylate superplasticizers. Flow retention, setting behavior and compatibility remain properties of the complete cement-admixture combination.

Typical Applications

• Concrete admixture production: Used to prepare liquid high-range water reducers for ready-mixed and precast concrete, helping concrete flow into forms with reduced water demand.
• Cementitious grouts: Used in suitable cement-based grouts and fluid mortars to disperse binder particles and obtain pumpable or pourable consistency without relying on excess water.
