Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate is a water-soluble, non-oxidizing biocidal active used in industrial water systems. It controls susceptible microorganisms, including sulfate-reducing bacteria encountered in oil production. Limiting microbial populations helps manage biological fouling and the microbial contribution to souring or corrosion in treated systems.

The selected product is a concentrated aqueous solution with a nominal active content of 75%. It is a raw material for industrial microbiological-control programs and formulated biocides. Its role differs from that of an oxidizing treatment such as hypochlorite, and it does not replace physical cleaning or mineral-scale control. Its water-soluble form allows distribution through the treated process stream, while the treatment program determines the required contact and replenishment.
