Glycidyl methacrylate (stabilized)

Glycidyl methacrylate combines a polymerizable methacrylate group with a reactive epoxide ring. The methacrylate can enter a polymer backbone through radical polymerization while leaving pendant epoxy groups available for later reactions. Those epoxides provide sites for crosslinking or attachment to carboxyl-, amino- and other suitably reactive compounds.

The selected stabilized liquid is a functional monomer for resin manufacture. It introduces a second reaction route into acrylic polymers and can be grafted onto suitable polyolefins to improve interfacial compatibility. The two functionalities are normally used in a controlled sequence: polymer formation establishes the backbone, and epoxy reactions develop adhesion, coupling or network structure. The monomer thus provides epoxy functionality that remains available after the initial polymerization.

Typical Applications

• Epoxy-functional acrylic resins: Used as a comonomer in acrylic coating and adhesive binders that retain pendant epoxide groups for subsequent curing or chemical modification.
• Grafted polyolefin compatibilizers: Used in suitable grafting processes to introduce epoxy functionality into polyolefins for reactive blending with polar polymers or fillers.
• Functional polymer particles: Used in polymer-particle synthesis where surface or pendant epoxy groups are required for later immobilization, coupling or crosslinking.
