Antioxidant 168

Antioxidant 168 is a sterically hindered organophosphite used as a secondary antioxidant during polymer processing. It reacts with hydroperoxides before they split into radicals that propagate degradation. This helps limit processing-induced changes in melt behavior, color and molecular structure, especially when paired with a primary phenolic antioxidant.

The selected powder is tris(2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite. Its function differs from that of phenolic antioxidants, which mainly terminate radical chains; the two chemistries address different stages of oxidation. It is widely incorporated into polyolefins and compatible resins during compounding. The additive supports processing stability and preserves the effectiveness of the broader stabilization package rather than supplying a dedicated UV-screening function.

• Polyolefin extrusion and molding: Used in polyethylene and polypropylene stabilization packages to reduce oxidative damage during melt processing.
• Polymer compounding and masterbatches: Used with compatible primary antioxidants in additive concentrates or finished compounds exposed to repeated thermal processing.
• Adhesive and elastomer formulations: Used in compatible formulations requiring peroxide decomposition and improved stability during hot processing or manufacture.
