Polyferric sulfate

Polyferric sulfate is a prehydrolyzed ferric coagulant used to remove colloids and suspended contaminants from water. Its hydrolyzed iron species destabilize charged particles, while further formation of ferric hydroxide floc captures fine solids. These mechanisms support turbidity reduction, clarification and removal of suitable color or phosphorus-bearing contaminants.

The selected solid product is dissolved before controlled addition to the treatment process. Coagulation is followed by an appropriate flocculation and solids-separation stage, allowing captured material to leave the water stream. Iron chemistry can also bind phosphate, but the resulting solids must still be removed. Its performance is linked to water alkalinity, pH and contaminant loading rather than the presence of iron alone.

Typical Applications

• Industrial wastewater clarification: Used ahead of settling or flotation to destabilize fine particles and produce separable floc in suitable industrial effluents.
• Phosphate-removal programs: Used as an iron-based coagulant in wastewater treatment where phosphate is transferred into removable solids.
• Colored process-water treatment: Used in appropriate treatment trains to assist removal of colloidal color bodies and suspended contaminants before water reuse or further treatment.
