Ethoxylated oleylamine (12 EO)

Ethoxylated oleyl amine combines a hydrophobic C18 unsaturated chain with hydrophilic polyoxyethylene groups. This amphiphilic structure provides wetting, emulsification and interfacial activity in industrial formulations. Its tertiary amine can become protonated in acidic conditions, introducing pH-dependent cationic character alongside the contribution of the ethoxylate chains.

The selected material has an average ethoxylation level of about 12 EO units and is a commercial molecular distribution rather than one discrete molecule. It is used to bring oil-like and water-containing components into a workable formulation. The amine functionality also supports adsorption at suitable interfaces, which is relevant to metal-treatment blends. Its relatively long ethoxylate chains favor incorporation into water-containing formulations while the oleyl chain supplies affinity for oily phases.

Typical Applications

• Industrial cleaning concentrates: Used as a wetting and emulsifying surfactant in compatible cleaning formulations that must contact oily soils and disperse them into an aqueous phase.
• Metalworking-fluid emulsions: Used as an interfacial component in suitable oil-in-water fluid concentrates to help maintain emulsification and wet metal surfaces.
• Surface-treatment formulations: Used in compatible industrial blends where the combination of amine adsorption and ethoxylate-mediated wetting is useful.
