Isobornyl acrylate (stabilized)

Isobornyl acrylate is a monofunctional acrylate with a bulky bicyclic group. It reduces the viscosity of compatible oligomer blends while becoming part of the polymer during radical cure. The rigid isobornyl structure contributes hardness and a higher glass-transition character without introducing the multiple reactive groups of a di- or triacrylate.

The selected stabilized liquid is a reactive diluent for radiation-curable or other radical-polymerized systems. Its single acrylate group helps adjust the balance between network density, shrinkage and mechanical response when blended with multifunctional components. It can therefore provide a different formulation effect from simply adding more crosslinker. Oligomer composition and comonomer balance determine the final hardness, adhesion and flexibility.

Typical Applications

• UV/EB industrial coatings: Used as a reactive diluent in suitable coating blends where manageable viscosity and a hard, durable film are required.
• Radiation-curable inks and varnishes: Used to adjust viscosity and the mechanical profile of formulated printing inks or overprint varnishes.
• Acrylic resin synthesis: Used as a monomer to introduce rigid isobornyl-containing units into acrylic polymers for coatings and related binders.
