Iron naphthenate solution (6% iron)

Iron naphthenate is an oil-compatible iron carboxylate used in oxidative-curing formulations. The iron center participates in redox reactions that influence peroxide decomposition and oxidation of unsaturated binders. The naphthenate ligand environment helps distribute the metal through suitable organic coating media.

The selected product is a hydrocarbon-based solution with a nominal iron content of about 6%, rather than pure solid salt. It is incorporated into a formulated drier package for oils or alkyd-type binders. Iron-based driers have their own color and cure response, so the complete package establishes surface drying, through drying and film appearance. Metal concentration defines the active-metal contribution more directly than the total mass of solution.

Typical Applications

• Alkyd and drying-oil drier packages: Used as an iron-containing component in suitable oxidative-curing systems where metal-catalyzed drying is required.
• Industrial coating formulation: Used in compatible pigmented coatings where its color contribution and interaction with other driers fit the intended binder and curing process.
