Immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B

Immobilized Candida antarctica lipase B is a heterogeneous biocatalyst used for ester-bond transformations. It catalyzes esterification, transesterification and hydrolysis, with reaction direction influenced by water availability and the substrates. Its selectivity can also be used to discriminate between suitable enantiomeric alcohols or esters.

The selected material is CALB attached to a solid carrier, rather than an unspecified soluble lipase powder. Immobilization allows the catalyst particles to be separated from the reaction mixture and can support reuse where activity is retained. The carrier is not the active enzyme itself, and solvent compatibility or diffusion can influence the observed reaction. This form is particularly relevant to synthesis involving poorly water-soluble organic substrates.
