Phenylethyl resorcinol

Phenylethyl resorcinol is a synthetic resorcinol derivative used as a cosmetic brightening active. Its interaction with tyrosinase supports formulations aimed at reducing the appearance of uneven pigmentation, while antioxidant activity provides a second functional contribution. It is supplied as a concentrated powder ingredient rather than a finished brightening serum or a pre-diluted active blend.

The aromatic structure gives the ingredient limited direct water solubility, so incorporation typically uses a compatible solvent or solubilization system. Uniform dissolution is relevant to both active distribution and crystal control in the finished product.
