Ascorbyl glucoside

Ascorbyl glucoside is a water-soluble vitamin C derivative in which glucose is attached to the ascorbic acid structure. The glycosidic substitution improves stability relative to free ascorbic acid in suitable formulations. Skin-associated enzymes can release ascorbic acid from the derivative, supporting its use in cosmetic antioxidant and brightening systems.

The powder is incorporated into the aqueous phase of cosmetic products and is commonly identified as AA2G. Its water solubility permits use in transparent aqueous vehicles and in the continuous phase of oil-in-water emulsions. The glycosylated structure differentiates its formulation behavior from free ascorbic acid and long-chain ascorbyl esters, allowing a vitamin C derivative to be included without an oil-soluble carrier.

Typical Applications

• Water-based brightening serums: Used in aqueous facial treatments targeting dullness and uneven-looking skin tone. The water-soluble powder allows a vitamin C derivative to be incorporated without an oil carrier.
• Antioxidant facial emulsions: Used in face creams and lotions as part of an antioxidant active system. It enters the aqueous portion of the emulsion while oils and emulsifiers supply the separate moisturizing structure.
