Decyl glucoside solution (50% aqueous)

Decyl glucoside is a nonionic alkyl polyglucoside surfactant used for cleansing, wetting and foam generation in personal-care formulations. The sugar-derived hydrophilic portion and fatty-alcohol-derived hydrophobe give it affinity for both water and oily soil. It is often blended with anionic or amphoteric surfactants to adjust the cleansing profile and foam character.

The common aqueous grade contains approximately half its mass as active surfactant and is handled as a viscous liquid. Commercial decyl glucoside represents a distribution of alkyl glucosides rather than a single pure decyl monoglucoside molecule. Its supplied alkalinity, carrier water and interaction with other surfactants influence formulation processing and viscosity, so it is incorporated as a surfactant concentrate rather than a finished cleanser.

Typical Applications

• Facial cleansing gels: Used as a nonionic component in liquid face washes. It assists removal of sebum and water-insoluble residues while participating in the selected surfactant blend.
• Body washes and liquid hand cleansers: Used in foaming skin cleansers where a glucoside surfactant is part of the formulation concept. Co-surfactants and rheology ingredients establish the required lather, flow and wash feel.
• Shampoo blends: Used alongside other cleansers in shampoo formulations to contribute nonionic detergency and foam. The liquid concentrate can be incorporated into the aqueous surfactant phase during manufacture.
