Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether

Diethylene glycol monoethyl ether is a glycol ether solvent used for solvency, coupling and slow-evaporating carrier functions in industrial formulations. Its ether oxygens and terminal hydroxyl group provide water compatibility, while the ethyl portion contributes affinity for organic ingredients. This balance helps connect aqueous and organic components in suitable coating and cleaning systems.

The clear liquid is also known as ethyl diglycol or DEGEE. It differs from diethylene glycol monobutyl ether in alkyl-chain length and from ethylene glycol monoethyl ether in glycol-chain structure. Its relatively low volatility can extend solvent availability during application and drying. The selected industrial grade is used as a formulation carrier, with pharmaceutical and personal-care solvent grades treated as separate commercial specifications.

Typical Applications

• Water-compatible coating vehicles: Used as a co-solvent in suitable coating formulations to assist resin compatibility and control the late-stage liquid phase during film formation. It is balanced with water and other solvents to establish drying behavior.
• Industrial cleaning concentrates: Used in compatible aqueous cleaners to help combine organic cleaning ingredients with water and support removal of oily residues. Its coupling function assists uniformity of the concentrate.
• Printing ink and resin solutions: Used in selected ink vehicles and resin solutions where a slower-evaporating glycol ether is required. It helps maintain solvency during processing and application before the remaining liquid is removed.
