1-Hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid solution (60% aqueous)

HEDP is a diphosphonic acid used for scale inhibition and metal-ion complexation. Its two phosphonate groups interact strongly with calcium and other suitable metals, while adsorption at crystal-growth sites limits formation of certain mineral deposits. These functions support both water-treatment and industrial-cleaning formulations.

The selected material is an approximately 60% aqueous acid concentrate, distinct from neutralized sodium-salt powders or solutions. It is diluted or neutralized during formulation according to the intended process. In water treatment, it is often combined with polymers and corrosion inhibitors; in cleaning, sequestration helps manage metal-ion interference. Its role is chemical control of deposits and dissolved ions rather than removal of suspended solids by coagulation.
