6-Benzyloxy-2-bromo-1-tetralone

2-Bromo-6-benzyloxy-1-tetralone is an alpha-brominated cyclic ketone that carries a protected phenolic group. The carbonyl permits reduction to a bromohydrin, while the neighboring bromine provides a retained handle for subsequent unsaturated-fragment construction. The benzyl ether protects the aromatic oxygen during reactions centered on the saturated ring.

This intermediate follows bromination of benzyloxy tetralone and precedes the brominated alcohol or alkene stages. Its adjacent carbonyl and bromine must be treated as a linked reactive arrangement, rather than as an isolated aryl bromide.
