alpha-Cypermethrin

Alpha-cypermethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide active supplied as technical material for formulation. It acts on insect voltage-gated sodium channels, disrupting nerve signaling and producing rapid knockdown and subsequent mortality. Contact and ingestion activity make it relevant to exposed insect pests on treated surfaces and crop foliage. Its stereoisomer composition distinguishes it from general cypermethrin technical material.

The active is poorly soluble in water and is incorporated into commercial products using solvent-based emulsification or fine-particle dispersion technology. Technical alpha-cypermethrin provides insecticidal activity; solvents, surfactants and other formulation components establish dilution behavior, coverage and delivery. Crop-protection and public-health products use different formulation designs and application patterns even when based on the same active ingredient.

Typical Applications

• Foliar crop insecticide formulations: Used to manufacture formulated insecticides targeting susceptible caterpillars, beetles and other labeled pests in crops such as cereals, cotton and vegetables. The active supplies fast contact action, while the finished spray formulation distributes it over foliage.
• Residual public-health insecticides: Used as an active raw material in products designed for residual control of mosquitoes and other designated insects on treated surfaces. Formulators incorporate it into dispersible or suspension-based products suited to the intended surface treatment.
• Insecticide combination products: Used as the pyrethroid component in insecticide mixtures where rapid knockdown complements an additional active with a different biological profile. Mixture manufacture requires a formulation that carries both actives consistently.
