Ammonium laureth sulfate (70% active paste)

Ammonium laureth sulfate is an anionic cleansing surfactant made by sulfating ethoxylated fatty alcohols and neutralizing with ammonia. It provides detergency, rapid foam generation and wetting in personal-care cleansing systems. The ethoxy segment distinguishes it from ammonium lauryl sulfate, while the ammonium counterion distinguishes it from sodium laureth sulfate.

A high-active paste grade supplies concentrated surfactant with less carrier water than conventional dilute solutions. During manufacture it is diluted into the aqueous surfactant phase and commonly combined with amphoteric or nonionic co-surfactants. Foam texture and viscosity depend on this blend and its electrolyte content. The paste is a formulation raw material, with its own active concentration rather than that of a finished shampoo or body wash.

Typical Applications

• Shampoo surfactant systems: Used as a principal anionic cleanser in liquid shampoos to remove sebum and particulate soil. Co-surfactants can be included to adjust foam texture and the feel of the wash.
• Body wash and shower gels: Used to build lathering aqueous cleansers for body care. Its detergency and foam response support gels and liquids in which viscosity is developed through the complete surfactant system.
• Foaming bath products: Used in bubble-bath and related formulations that require foam generation on dilution into water. The concentrated paste provides a practical feedstock for manufacturing the finished aqueous product.
