Chemical Product Description & Applications

Cetearyl glucoside is a nonionic sugar-based emulsifier used to stabilize oil-in-water cosmetic emulsions. In the common commercial emulsifying-wax format, it is combined with cetearyl alcohol. The glucoside provides interfacial stabilization, while the fatty alcohol contributes body and participates in lamellar structures that help organize the cream’s continuous phase.

This wax blend is supplied as a solid and incorporated through the heated emulsion process. It is a multi-ingredient emulsifying material rather than neat cetearyl glucoside. The fatty-alcohol contribution is relevant to cream consistency and cushion, so the blend is particularly suited to structured emulsions. Oils, water content and additional rheology ingredients determine whether the final product is a rich cream or a lighter lotion.

Typical Applications

  • Facial moisturizing creams: Used as the main emulsifying and structuring wax in oil-in-water face creams. It distributes the emollient oil phase and contributes a substantial cream texture.
  • Body lotions and hand creams: Used in body and hand-care emulsions containing cosmetic oils, humectants and skin-conditioning ingredients. The emulsifier-fatty-alcohol combination supplies both interface stabilization and body.
  • Emulsion masks and treatment creams: Used to manufacture rinse-off or leave-on emulsion products that need a stable, scoopable texture. The lamellar structuring contribution supports an organized cream matrix around the dispersed oil droplets.
