Bis(acetylacetonato)dioxomolybdenum(VI)

Bis(acetylacetonato)dioxomolybdenum(VI) is a molybdenum complex used as an oxidation-catalyst precursor and a starting material for other coordination compounds. The Mo(VI)-oxo center supports oxygen-transfer chemistry with suitable oxidants, while the acetylacetonate ligands provide a defined, organically compatible coordination environment. Ligand replacement allows access to differently tuned molybdenum catalysts.

The selected material is MoO2(acac)2, distinct from molybdenum acetylacetonates with a different oxidation state or oxo content. It is used directly in appropriate catalytic systems or converted into supported and ligand-modified species. Its molecular form permits controlled introduction of molybdenum into catalyst preparations. The final activity and selectivity depend on the active species formed, the oxidant and the substrate.
