Glutaraldehyde solution (50% aqueous)

Glutaraldehyde is a bifunctional aldehyde supplied commercially as an aqueous concentrate for industrial microbial control and protein crosslinking. The two aldehyde groups react with nucleophilic sites in proteins and other biological structures. This reactivity supports bactericidal action in formulated treatment products and the formation of crosslinks in collagen-containing materials.

A 50% aqueous grade provides concentrated active in a pumpable, water-compatible form. It is normally diluted or incorporated into a treatment formulation, with pH and other ingredients affecting reaction rate and persistence. Industrial glutaraldehyde concentrate has uses in process-water treatment and leather processing; the grade description does not establish suitability as a medical disinfectant or a ready-to-use consumer product.

Typical Applications

• Industrial water-treatment biocides: Used in formulated microbial-control programs for recirculating water and other industrial aqueous systems. The active helps control bacterial contamination that can contribute to slime formation and process fouling.
• Oilfield microbial-control products: Used in biocide formulations for designated oilfield waters and production operations. It provides microbial control in aqueous process streams, including systems where bacterial growth contributes to operational problems.
• Leather tanning and retanning: Used as an aldehyde tanning or retanning agent to crosslink collagen. This supports wet-white processing and modification of leather properties through chemical interaction with the hide structure.
