Galaxolide in isopropyl myristate (50% HHCB)

Galaxolide, also known as HHCB, is a polycyclic musk fragrance ingredient with a clean, soft musky character. It supplies body and continuity to a fragrance and contributes substantivity, allowing the musk note to remain perceptible after more volatile components have evaporated. These odor and persistence functions make it useful in personal-care and household fragrance compositions.

A common commercial format contains 50% Galaxolide in isopropyl myristate. The carrier makes the musk easier to handle and incorporate into an oil-compatible fragrance concentrate. The supplied solution is therefore not neat HHCB, and its musk content must be distinguished from the full amount of liquid added. Other carrier versions, including dipropylene glycol solutions, are separate grades with different compatibility profiles.

• Fine-fragrance concentrates: Used to build soft musk accords and support the base of floral, woody and fresh compositions. Its persistence helps connect the initial fragrance impression with the later dry-down.
• Personal-care fragrance compounds: Used in fragrance oils for soaps, shampoos and body-care products where a clean musky background is desired. The fragrance compound carries the musk into the finished base.
• Fabric-care perfumes: Used in fragrance compositions for laundry detergents and fabric-care products to supply a recognizable musk character and lasting fragrance impression. The finished perfume and product base establish deposition and release behavior.
