Hydroxyethyl urea solution (50% aqueous)

Hydroxyethyl urea is a water-compatible humectant used to retain moisture and improve the sensory feel of cosmetic formulations. Its hydroxyl and urea groups associate with water, supporting hydration in leave-on and rinse-off products. It is selected where a moisturizing contribution is needed with a relatively light, non-greasy feel.

The common 50% aqueous grade is supplied as a liquid concentrate for incorporation into the water phase. Hydroxyethyl urea differs chemically from unsubstituted urea, with the hydroxyethyl group contributing to its water-compatible structure. It generally serves as a small-molecule moisturizer rather than as a primary rheology modifier. The solution contributes carrier water as well as active, which distinguishes its formulation accounting from a neat powder ingredient.

• Lightweight moisturizing serums: Used in facial serums, essences and gels to increase the humectant contribution without relying solely on glycerin. It is dissolved in the aqueous vehicle for uniform delivery.
• Face and body emulsions: Used in creams and lotions to support hydration while helping preserve a light application feel. It complements oil-phase emollients, which provide a different moisturizing mechanism.
• Hair and body cleansing products: Used as a humectant in shampoos, shower products and other water-based cleansers. Its role is the moisturizing contribution within the finished surfactant system.
