Hydroxypropyl starch ether

Hydroxypropyl starch ether is a modified polysaccharide used to control the rheology of mineral-based construction mixes. It increases low-shear body and helps wet mortar resist movement under its own weight. Its effect on consistency also supports easier application and reduces the tendency of a placed layer to slump.

The selected construction-grade powder is used as a rheology additive in dry blends. It is commonly combined with cellulose ether: starch ether mainly supports body, anti-sag behavior and application feel, while cellulose ether contributes the principal water-retention function. This distinction is useful in vertical tile adhesives and plasters where stable placement and workable spreading must coexist. It is not a substitute for the cement or redispersible-polymer binder.

Typical Applications

• Tile-adhesive mortars: Used to improve wet-mortar body and reduce tile slip in suitable vertical-installation formulations.
• Gypsum and cement plasters: Used to limit sagging of applied material while maintaining a workable consistency during spreading and finishing.
• Skim coats and wall putties: Used to improve cohesion and application feel in thin mineral-filled leveling layers.
