Lead distearate

Lead distearate is a lead soap used in traditional PVC stabilizer and lubricant systems. Its stearate chains reduce friction and adhesion at interfaces, while the lead-containing component contributes to thermal stabilization in a formulated package. These functions help manage polymer flow and degradation during suitable PVC-processing operations.

The selected material is neutral lead distearate, chemically distinct from dibasic lead stearate. It is normally combined with other stabilizers and lubricants rather than treated as a complete stabilization system by itself. Its fatty-acid portion supports release from processing equipment, while the surrounding package determines heat stability and fusion behavior. Balancing the metal soap with the other lubricants helps control fusion and surface finish during processing.

Typical Applications

• Industrial PVC cable compounds: Used in traditional lead-stabilized formulations where lubrication is combined with a broader thermal-stabilization package.
• Rigid PVC extrusion compounds: Used in appropriate industrial formulations to assist release from metal surfaces and support processing within a lead-based stabilizer system.
