n-Butyl 2-cyanoacrylate (stabilized)

n-Butyl cyanoacrylate is a reactive monomer used to formulate rapidly curing cyanoacrylate adhesives. Its electron-deficient double bond undergoes anionic polymerization initiated by trace moisture and basic species on suitable surfaces. This converts a liquid monomer into a bonded polymer film without the solvent-evaporation step required by conventional solvent-borne adhesives.

The selected material is stabilized industrial monomer for further formulation. The n-butyl ester gives a different polymer flexibility and cure profile from shorter-chain cyanoacrylates. Stabilizers, viscosity modifiers and other ingredients are used to establish storage behavior and application characteristics. The raw monomer is therefore a formulation feedstock, with its final bonding performance determined by the complete adhesive and the substrates being joined.

• Instant-adhesive manufacture: Used as a reactive monomer in formulated cyanoacrylate adhesives for small-part assembly and precision bonding of compatible materials.
• Specialty adhesive blends: Used with suitable cyanoacrylate monomers or modifiers to adjust the balance of cure behavior, film flexibility and handling characteristics.
