tert-Butyl 4-bromophenethyl(ethyl)carbamate is a protected phenethylamine building block with a para-brominated aromatic ring. The aryl bromide provides a handle for carbon–carbon bond construction, while the Boc carbamate masks the secondary N-ethylamine during earlier synthetic operations. Together, these functions allow aromatic-fragment assembly to precede release of the amine.

The material is the N-ethyl, Boc-protected derivative, not 4-bromophenethylamine or its hydrochloride. Its two-carbon connection between the ring and nitrogen is retained in downstream products. Following the required aromatic transformation, acid-mediated Boc removal exposes an N-ethylaminoethyl group for subsequent alkylation or other nitrogen functionalization.
