Tris(4-nitrophenyl)amine is a three-armed aromatic intermediate containing a central triarylamine nitrogen and one para-nitro group on each phenyl ring. The preassembled framework supplies three equivalent terminal functional sites. Reduction of those nitro groups gives the corresponding aromatic triamine without reconstructing the central branched skeleton.
The selected compound is the nitro precursor, not tris(4-aminophenyl)amine itself. Its value in synthesis is the combination of a defined three-arm geometry and reducible terminal groups. Conversion to the triamine creates primary amino sites for subsequent condensation or acylation chemistry. This separates construction of the branched aromatic core from the later formation of polymer or porous-framework connections.
Typical Applications
Tris(4-aminophenyl)amine preparation: Used as the nitro-functional starting material in reduction routes to TAPA, an amine building block for subsequent polymer and covalent-organic-framework synthesis.
