1-(Cyclopropanecarbonyl)piperazine

1-(Cyclopropanecarbonyl)piperazine is a monoacylated diamine building block with one free piperazine NH. The free nitrogen supports amide formation or substitution, while the existing cyclopropanecarbonyl group supplies a defined terminal fragment. This structure allows two different substituents to be introduced on the piperazine nitrogens through separate synthetic steps.

The selected material is the free amine, so the remaining nitrogen is available directly for reaction with a suitable electrophile. Its preinstalled amide reduces the number of nitrogen-functionalization operations needed after connection to a complex scaffold. In olaparib synthesis, it can serve as the complementary fragment for convergent aromatic-acid coupling. Other electrophiles provide access to related N-substituted piperazine derivatives.
