Chemical Product Description & Applications

Chlorinated polyethylene is a chlorinated polyolefin used as an impact modifier in rigid PVC. In a properly fused compound, its elastomeric phase helps dissipate impact energy and reduce brittle failure. The chlorinated structure supports compatibility with PVC, while its saturated backbone contributes resistance to outdoor aging.

The selected material is a 135A-type impact-modifier powder. It is compounded with PVC resin, stabilizers, lubricants and other ingredients to establish the required dispersed morphology. Its main job is toughness modification, not replacing the resin or acting as the complete heat-stabilizer package. Fusion, dispersion and the balance of other additives influence the combination of impact strength, surface quality and processing behavior.

Typical Applications

  • Rigid PVC window and building profiles: Used to improve toughness and reduce brittle breakage in appropriately formulated extruded profiles.
  • PVC pipes and fittings: Used in suitable rigid PVC compounds where impact resistance must be improved alongside the required processing and dimensional properties.
  • PVC boards and sheets: Used as an elastomeric modifier in extruded rigid products that require better resistance to cracking during handling or service.
