2-Naphthoxyacetic acid

2-Naphthoxyacetic acid, also known as beta-naphthoxyacetic acid or BNOA, is an auxin-type plant growth regulator supplied as a crystalline technical raw material. It influences auxin-responsive growth processes, including fruit initiation and development. Its principal commercial relevance is as an active ingredient in formulations intended to promote fruit set and support development of fruit after flowering.

BNOA contains a naphthoxy group linked to an acetic acid function and is chemically distinct from naphthaleneacetic acid, commonly abbreviated NAA. The free acid has limited water solubility, so soluble, dispersed or solvent-assisted formulations establish its delivery to plant tissue. The raw material is a growth-regulator active rather than a complete nutrient feed or a ready-to-use flower treatment.
