Hydrolyzed Sclerotium Gum

Hydrolyzed sclerotium gum is a polysaccharide-derived cosmetic ingredient used for moisture retention, skin conditioning and modification of the product’s feel. Its water-associated polymer structure contributes a hydrated surface film, while commercial hydrolyzed grades are used to improve softness and comfort. It is selected for these conditioning and sensory functions in water-containing formulations.

Hydrolysis differentiates this ingredient from unmodified sclerotium gum, so the viscosity-building behavior of a standard gum cannot be assigned automatically to the hydrolyzed material. The relevant commercial grade is incorporated through the compatible aqueous phase. Its contribution to texture depends on molecular characteristics and the other rheology modifiers in the formula, rather than on the gum name alone.

• Moisturizing facial formulations: Used in serums, gels and emulsions to add polysaccharide-based moisture retention and a soft skin feel. It complements soluble humectants and the lipid phase of moisturizing products.
• Dry-skin comfort creams: Used in creams and lotions developed for skin that feels dry or tight. The ingredient contributes conditioning and surface hydration within a broader emollient and humectant system.
