N-Oleoylsarcosine

N-Oleoylsarcosine is an oil-compatible acyl sarcosine used primarily as a corrosion-inhibiting additive in industrial fluids. Its polar acid-containing head group adsorbs at metal interfaces, while the long oleoyl chain helps establish a hydrophobic barrier against water. The same amphiphilic structure also contributes interfacial activity in suitable fluid systems.

The neat acid grade is a liquid additive that can be incorporated into oils or converted into salts for compatible aqueous and emulsified formulations. It is chemically different from sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, a shorter-chain neutralized cleansing surfactant. The free-acid form, its neutralization state and the carrier fluid determine how it distributes between oil, water and the metal surface.

Typical Applications

• Rust-preventive oils: Used as a corrosion-inhibitor component in protective oils for ferrous parts during storage or intermediate processing. Adsorption at the metal surface helps the oil film resist water-related corrosion.
• Metalworking fluid formulations: Used in compatible cutting and forming fluids to contribute ferrous-metal protection. Neutralized or oil-carried forms are selected to match the fluid architecture and maintain distribution of the inhibitor.
• Industrial lubricant additives: Used in formulated lubricants where an oil-compatible polar inhibitor is required to protect metal surfaces exposed to incidental moisture. It contributes corrosion control separately from the lubricant’s base-oil viscosity and antiwear package.
