Chemical Product Description & Applications
Lead(II) bromide is an inorganic lead-halide precursor used in development of halide perovskite materials. It supplies both lead and bromide to the resulting crystal structure. Adjusting its proportion relative to iodide or chloride precursors changes the halide composition, which influences optical absorption and emission in the prepared material.
The high-purity solid is handled as a precursor for controlled materials synthesis. It can be incorporated through compatible polar-solvent systems or other selected crystal-growth routes. The raw powder is not itself a finished semiconductor film: the accompanying cation precursors and processing method establish the perovskite phase, morphology and device response. Moisture and trace-metal profiles are relevant grade attributes for this application.
Typical Applications
- Mixed-halide perovskite absorber research: Used with complementary lead-halide and organic or inorganic cation precursors to prepare bromide-containing absorber layers. Its bromide contribution is used to adjust composition in photovoltaic materials development.
- Perovskite light-emitting materials: Used in synthesis of bromide-containing perovskite emitters and nanocrystalline materials. The precursor contributes the lead-halide framework from which the optical material is formed.
- Halide crystal-growth studies: Used as a defined lead and bromide source in research on perovskite phase formation, crystal growth and composition. The powder allows systematic comparison of precursor ratios and resulting material structures.
