D-Sorbitol solution (70% aqueous)

D-Sorbitol is a polyol used as a humectant, sweetening component and texture modifier in oral-care and personal-care formulations. Its multiple hydroxyl groups bind water and help limit drying of water-containing products. It also contributes dissolved solids and body, which are useful in paste and gel vehicles.

The 70% aqueous grade is a viscous syrup that is blended into the water phase. It differs from crystalline sorbitol powder in handling and carrier-water contribution. Commercial liquid grades can also differ in sorbitol distribution and crystallization behavior. For toothpaste and cosmetic manufacture, the solution provides a practical combination of moisture retention, mild sweetness and liquid-phase bulk without serving as the primary gelling polymer.

• Toothpaste and tooth-gel bases: Used to help retain moisture, provide body and contribute sweetness in oral-care pastes. It supports a workable paste texture and limits drying at exposed product surfaces.
• Mouth-care liquids: Used as a polyol component in compatible mouth rinses and other oral-care liquids. It contributes sweetness and mouthfeel while remaining dissolved in the aqueous base.
• Moisturizing skin-care formulations: Used in creams, gels and liquid cleansers as a water-binding ingredient. It supplements the humectant system and contributes to the dissolved-solids content of the aqueous phase.
