Sec-butyl acetate is an ester solvent used to dissolve compatible resins and adjust evaporation behavior in industrial formulations. Its solvency supports uniform liquid mixtures, while its volatility helps establish drying and leveling during film formation. The solvent is the acetate ester of secondary butanol, giving a different structure from normal and isobutyl acetate.

The industrial grade is a clear liquid that is commonly used in multi-solvent blends. Resin compatibility and the balance of faster and slower solvents determine how the formulation stays dissolved as it dries. Sec-butyl acetate supplies a volatile carrier contribution rather than a reactive binder, so the final coating or ink properties come primarily from the resin, pigment and additive system.

• Industrial coating solvent blends: Used in compatible paints and lacquers to dissolve the film-forming resin and adjust application viscosity. Its evaporation contribution is balanced with other solvents to develop the required drying profile.
• Printing ink vehicles: Used in suitable solvent-based inks to carry resin and assist viscosity adjustment. Evaporation after printing allows the binder and pigment to form the deposited ink layer.
• Resin solutions and thinners: Used in selected resin solutions and formulated thinners where an acetate ester carrier is required. It helps maintain a uniform liquid phase during storage and application.
